Title VI Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships are provided to MSU by the U.S. Department of Education. These fellowships support the study of African languages and area studies for graduate students who U.S. citizens or permanent residents and who are preparing to conduct doctoral research in Africa. Fellowships support all tuition costs, fees, and a stipend. They are awarded on a competitive basis in April for two semesters study. Deadlines for application normally are in February.
Additional Title VI FLAS fellowships are available through the African Studies Center for summer intensive study of African languages at MSU or other U.S. summer intensive programs.
