Call for Entries / General Guidelines
The Michigan State University Office of International Studies and Programs and the Michigan
State University Alumni Association announce MSU Global Focus 2001, the Third Annual International
Photography Competition for MSU students, faculty, staff, retirees, alumni and Alumni Association members.
Substantial prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. These winners will also have their work
enlarged and displayed in the MSU International Center and at select MSU Alumni Association venues. An electronic
photo gallery will be created within the MSU website for display of winning entries, including “honorable mentions”.
Some of the winning photos may be used in ISP and Alumni Association publications. Winning entries will also be featured
at the annual MSU International Awards Ceremony, March 27, 2002.
Entrants must have an official connection with MSU, defined as MSU student, faculty, staff, retiree, alum and/or
Alumni Association member. Entries from ISP or MSUAA employees or other individuals involved in competition
planning or judging, as well as entries from professional photographers, are not eligible to win, place, or
receive major prizes although they may earn “honorable mention”. Entries must be the original work of the entrant,
and must be photographs taken outside the United States. Although all styles of photography may be submitted,
preference will be given to entries which artistically depict some connection between MSU’s mission and the rest
of the world, and which are of broad interest to a diverse viewing audience.
A maximum of three photographs per entrant may be entered.
Each entrant may submit photos in only one of the following three entry categories:
- MSU Student
- MSU Faculty / Staff (including Retirees)
- MSU Alum and/or Alumni Association Member
1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, and an indeterminate number of “honorable mention” awards will be
made in each of these three categories. One prize maximum per entrant.
Entries must be in either slide format or print format. (No digital or video entries.)
Deadline for entries: Friday October 5, 2001 at 5:00 P.M. EDT
Judging will be completed and winners will be notified ASAP thereafter.
