2009 Global Focus Photography Competition

Call for Entries/General Guidelines

The Michigan State University Office of International Studies and Programs and the Michigan State University Alumni Association announce MSU Global Focus 2009, the Tenth Annual International Photography Competition for MSU students, faculty, staff, retirees, alumni and Alumni Association members.

Substantial prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. These winners will also have their work enlarged and displayed in the MSU International Center and at select MSU Alumni Association venues. An electronic photo gallery will be created within the MSU website for display of winning entries, including honorable mentions. Some of the winning photos may be used in ISP and Alumni Association publications. Winning entries will also be featured at the annual MSU International Awards Ceremony in Spring 2010.

Basic Rules

  1. Entrants must have an official connection with MSU, defined as MSU student, faculty, staff, retiree, alum and/or Alumni Association member. Entries from individuals involved in competition planning or judging, and entries from professional photographers, are not eligible to win, place, or receive major prizes although they may earn an honorable mention. Entries must be the original work of the entrant, and must be photographs taken outside the United States.
  2. A maximum of three photographs per entrant may be entered.
  3. An individual entrant may submit photos in only one of the three entry categories:
    • MSU Student
    • MSU Faculty/Staff (including Retirees)
    • MSU Alum and/or Alumni Association Member
  4. 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, and an indeterminate number of honorable mention awards will be made in each of those three categories.
  5. One prize maximum per entrant.

Entries must be in either slide format or print format. Prints of high-resolution digital photos are acceptable. See the Competition Rules for details.

Deadline for Entries: Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. EDT. Judging will be completed and winners will be notified as soon as possible thereafter.
