  • Ralph Smuckler Award for Advancing International Studies and Programs

    This award recognizes one or two faculty members each year for their significant and lasting impact on the advancement of international scholarship, teaching, and public service at MSU. This award, created in 1991, is given in honor of Ralph H. Smuckler, who served ISP from its inception in 1956 until 1990, including 22 years as Dean.   • John K. Hudzik Emerging Leader in Advancing International Studies and Programs Award

    Created in 2006 and named after John K. Hudzik, former Dean of International Studies and Programs, this award encourages faculty early in their careers to be internationally engaged and recognizes one annually for making a significant impact on the advancement of international scholarship, teaching, and/or public service and outreach at Michigan State University.   • Joon S. Moon Distinguished International Alumni Award

    Michigan State University has thousands of international alumni, many of whom have distinguished themselves in their chosen field. The Joon S. Moon Award, named for an prominent Korean-American business man and MSU alumnus, recognizes one or more international alumni who have brought special credit to MSU through their professional achievements.   • Gill-Chin Lim Award for Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation in Global Studies

    Michigan State University will recognize and award at least one graduate student each year for an outstanding doctoral dissertation, completed the preceding year, and focusing on global studies. This award is named after the late Dr. Gill-Chin Lim, MSU Professor of Geography and Urban Planning and former Dean of International Studies and Programs. Dr. Lim advised many outstanding graduate students who today explore new areas of knowledge in global issues, development studies, and comparative and multi-disciplinary studies.   • Glen Taggart Award for Community Contribution to International Understanding

    Named in honor of ISP's first dean, the Glen Taggart Award for Community Contribution to International Understanding is given to one or more citizens of the State of Michigan who have made a distinct, sustained contribution to international understanding in their respective communities or in the state at large. The aim of the award is to extend public recognition to people not attached to MSU who give their time, energy and imagination to the work of promoting knowledge of and concern for all the peoples of the world.   • The Homer Higbee International Education Award

    The Homer Higbee International Education Award was named for a person who dedicated his professional life to international educational exchange in the 25 years that he served in the Office of International Studies and Programs at MSU. The Higbee awards are primarily for MSU students who have made significant contributions to the enhancement of international communication, understanding, and cooperation at MSU through service activities. One member of Community Volunteers for International Programs (CVIP) is also given such an award each year.   • Special Recognition Award for Promoting International Understanding

    The Special Recognition Award for Promoting International Understanding is occasionally made to MSU faculty and staff who have contributed to internationalizing the campus, to MSU programs globally and /or to humanitarian causes internationally, but do not meet the criteria for other International Sudies & Programs awards. Previous recipients of this award, for example, have included faculty and staff members recognized for leadership in the Third Annual Mathematics and Science Study, academic accomplishment and tireless efforts to increase internationalization through the vibrant medium of African dance, outstanding contributions to Global Festival, a central role in assisting international officers with their technological changes related to the MSU Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), and leadership of groups of students and health professionals on medical missions in Mexico.
