Hospitality Business and Tourism in Japan
New JCMU Program starting summer 2010!
The Hospitality Business and Tourism in Japan Program is an opportunity designed for hospitality business and tourism students and professionals who want to add international dimensions to their careers at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The program will run June-August, on the same schedule as the JCMU Summer Intensive Program.
The program is comprised of three main components: a Japanese language course focusing on the intensive study of hospitality business related Japanese language and culture, a keystone course exploring topics of Japanese hospitality business and tourism in one of Japan's most dynamic and active tourist regions, and an internship.
2010 Hospitality Business and Tourism Course Offerings
- Hospitality Business and Tourism Keystone Course[3 credits] – The course will acquaint students with hospitality business and tourism in Japan. This course will explore topics of Japanese hospitality business and tourism in one of Japan's most dynamic and active tourist regions.
- Japanese language for Hospitality Business [3 credits] – This course involves regular course meetings and will pay particular attention to hospitality business-related themes, vocabulary, situations, and activities by drawing upon examples from Japanese culture, society and experiences related to the keystone course work. Beyond classroom training, HBT students are able to apply their increasing language skills in the local community and in internships. Field trips, demonstrations, and other activities, whether organized by the JCMU staff or initiated by students, complement language study.
- HBT Internship [4 credits] – Students additionally participate in an internship based on each student's specific hospitality business or tourism related interests to to gain firsthand, real life experience in hotels, restaurants, tourist-related offices and other industries in Japan.
