Walker Hill International Award
The Walker Hill International Award is an award that can be used for pre-dissertation visits to a doctoral research site in a country outside the United States. International students who undertake research in the country of their origin are not eligible. The award amount varies every year, but will be no less than $1000.
Criteria
To be eligible for the award, you must:
- Be an MSU doctoral student at the pre-dissertation stage who has completed adequate credits to have pre-dissertation research objectives.
- Demonstrate scholarly excellence.
- Demonstrate character and personal attributes that contribute to a high probability of success in an international setting.
Previous recipients of a Walker Hill Award or an ISP Predissertation Travel Award are not eligible. Financial need may be considered when selecting Walker Hill awardees.
To Apply
To apply for the award, submit the following by March 1st:
- Completed Walker Hill Award Application Form.
- Curriculum vitae or resume.
- Letter of application describing how you would use the scholarship funds for your program of study and how your project will contribute to MSU’s reputation as one of the top 100 research universities in the world.
- Letter of support from your academic or research adviser. (Reference letters are confidential and will only be shared with members of the selection committee.)
- Letter of support from a second faculty member.
- Official MSU transcript that includes most recent fall semester grades.
- Transcripts from previously-attended educational institutions are not required.
